About The Institution
Our History
Saint Esteban School was born from the dream of our Head Master and founder, Mrs. Lorena Ramírez, to provide high-quality, committed, and transformative education in an area of the country where, at that time, no similar proposal existed. Thus, in 1984, this educational project began with a clear vision: to offer families an excellent, close, and purposeful education capable of making a real difference in the lives of their students.
From the very beginning, the institution has stood out for offering private, bilingual, and personalized education committed not only to academic development, but also to the holistic formation of every student. At Saint Esteban School, we believe educating goes beyond teaching subjects: it means accompanying, instilling values, strengthening skills, and providing tools for life.
Over the years, Saint Esteban School has been characterized by staying at the forefront of educational training, methodology, and trends, evolving according to the needs of each generation and always striving to offer an up-to-date, close, and high-quality proposal. Facilities
Our facilities have been designed to enrich the educational experience and respond to the needs of each stage of development. At Saint Esteban School, our students rotate to their classes, a dynamic that encourages more active, stimulating learning that is better aligned with their development
This rotation system is important because it prevents students from remaining in a single space throughout the entire day, promoting natural active breaks, a better disposition for learning, and a more dynamic experience. As they move between classrooms, boys and girls activate their bodies, change environments, renew their attention, and encourage kinesthetic movement, which contributes positively to concentration, motivation, and well-being throughout the school day.
In preschool, we have three classrooms divided by subject: one for English, Literature, and Pre-writing; another for Math, Arts, Science, and Early Literacy; and a third for Music, Body Movement, Ethics and Values, and Neuromotor Development. We also have a computer lab.
In elementary school, the organization also responds to the different academic areas. In 1st grade, classes are divided between English and subjects in Spanish, while from 2nd to 6th grade the areas are organized into Math, English, Social Studies-Science, and Spanish. Special subjects such as computer lab, creative development, and visual arts are also included.
Our institution also has an indoor heated swimming pool, a library, a teachers’ lounge, and play areas on the first and second floors. Recess periods are scheduled by grade levels to make better use of the space for students. Dismissal is also carried out in an orderly way, first prioritizing students who travel by school bus and then calling each student individually.

That is why we intentionally chose Dash, our official mascot, and the Saint Esteban Jaguars as the identity that unites us with pride.
Why The Jaguar?
A symbol of strength and character
The jaguar conveys presence, confidence, and determination. It is a strong, agile, and resilient animal, characteristics that inspire our students to face challenges with confidence, discipline, and courage.

Beyond its strength, the jaguar also represents sharpness, observation, and intelligence. At Saint Esteban School, we value students who not only learn, but also think, analyze, make decisions, and develop their own judgment.
Pride in our Costa Rican biodiversity
Choosing a Costa Rican animal as our institutional symbol also reflects our desire to strengthen identity, belonging, and respect for nature. The jaguar is part of our country’s natural richness and reminds us of the importance of valuing, protecting, and admiring the wildlife that is part of our surroundings.

The jaguar symbolizes the courage to lead the way, move with confidence, and adapt to different challenges. We want our students to grow with that same attitude: confident, capable of moving forward, and prepared to face the future with determination.

Why Dash?
The name Dash conveys speed, energy, drive, and movement. It reflects an active, brave, and enthusiastic personality aligned with the spirit of our students and the strength represented by the jaguar. Dash stands for closeness, joy, and character: a mascot that inspires, supports, and proudly represents the entire Saint Esteban School family.

What has your experience in the field of education been?
For 11 years, I have dedicated myself to the field of education, starting my experience as an assistant and later as a teacher for different preschool groups, from infants to 5-year-olds. It has truly been an enriching experience both professionally and personally, and I continue learning every day from this beautiful profession.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
What I am passionate about in teaching is seeing each one of my students’ achievements, being the means through which they learn new things, and feeling both the joy and the nostalgia of watching them grow.
What do you hope your students will remember about you and your classes?
I hope my students remember my hugs, the words of encouragement, and the sense of safety and love I was able to give them. From my classes, I would love for them to remember the games, the laughter, and the encouraging applause they gave themselves when they achieved something.
How would you describe your vocation in one sentence?
“Teaching with love, patience, and heart is the vocation that guides my work each day.”
What do you love most about teaching?
I love teaching because it means knowing that you will be part of many little lives for a very long time. Teaching means knowing that we hold pure hearts and souls in our hands that must be guided not only academically, but also in values.
I love arriving every morning and seeing their smiles when they see me, returning that smile, and receiving a big hug. Being able to see something that was once very difficult for them suddenly become something they can do is a great satisfaction as a teacher. I witness their first achievements in many areas, and I deeply love that.

What has your experience in the field of education been?
For more than 10 years, I have had the opportunity to accompany boys and girls from 6 months to 5 years old in their first steps into the world of education. My experience has focused on creating a safe, loving, and trusting environment where every student feels cared for, valued, and motivated to explore and learn.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
I am passionate about seeing how children discover the world with curiosity, joy, and wonder. I truly enjoy accompanying their learning and growth experiences, especially in such an important and meaningful stage of their lives.

I hope they remember that in class they felt loved, safe, and happy, and that their first learning experiences were full of affection, trust, and meaningful moments.

My work has focused on creating meaningful learning environments while respecting each student’s individual pace.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
I am passionate about accompanying children’s growth and learning process from their earliest years. I enjoy seeing how they discover the world, develop new skills, and gain self-confidence. Knowing that I can contribute to their holistic development and be part of their first achievements gives meaning to my work.

What has your experience in the field of education been?
I have five years of experience, and this is my sixth year in preschool education. I have had the opportunity to work in different educational centers in the country and with diverse methodologies such as Positive Discipline, STEAM, and Montessori.
This has allowed me to grow professionally and not limit myself to a single teaching method, but to develop a broader vision by integrating different tools and strategies to achieve meaningful learning in my students.
I also hold a certification in STEAM methodology from STEAMED LATAM, where I strengthened my knowledge in project-based learning (PBL), which I continue to implement in the classroom.
I have also participated in volunteer work with children and young people at social risk, bringing education to populations with economic and social limitations. This experience has allowed me to understand different realities of the educational system, both public and private, and further enrich my teaching practice.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
What I am most passionate about in teaching is the impact it has on society. Education has the power to transform lives and build a better future. From it come the professionals who shape our society: doctors, engineers, judges, police officers, nurses, and many others.
I firmly believe that a people with education will always have greater opportunities. As teachers, we are the beginning of that process, planting in each child the foundations for their personal and professional development.
What do you hope your students will remember about you and your class?
I hope my students remember me as a person who represented a safe place for them, where they could make mistakes without fear and find support to grow.
I would like them to see me as a cheerful, creative, and committed teacher, willing to innovate, dress up, or create different experiences to achieve meaningful learning.
I want them to remember my classes as spaces where they could express themselves freely: dance, sing, learn through play, and share emotions. A place where they not only learned content, but also values such as empathy, joy for others’ achievements, and support in difficult moments.

A child’s job is to make mistakes and learn; my job as a teacher is to make them feel capable and happy every day.
What do you love most about being a teacher?

My experience in education has been mainly focused on preschool education, where I have had the privilege of guiding boys and girls in their first stages of learning. At this time, I am in the process of professional training in preschool education, which has given me the opportunity to combine theory with practice. This has strengthened my pedagogical skills, my sensitivity to the needs of young children, and my commitment to providing holistic and meaningful education.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
What I am most passionate about as a teacher is the opportunity to contribute to the holistic development of every child, especially in a stage as crucial as early childhood. It fills me with joy to see how they explore the world, learn to communicate, relate to others, and build their first knowledge. It also inspires me to know that, as an educator, I can positively impact their self-esteem, confidence, and love for learning.

I hope my students remember me as a close, caring, and understanding teacher who always strove to make them feel safe, valued, and happy. For me, educating means supporting with love, inspiring through example, and planting something valuable in every child. I have always said, “It is easier to raise healthy children than to repair broken adults,” and that is the phrase that always stays with me.

What are you passionate about in teaching?
I am passionate about teaching because each day represents a new opportunity to learn, inspire, and leave a positive mark on my students. I believe teaching goes far beyond transmitting academic content; for me, it is also essential to create an environment of trust, motivation, and respect where each student feels valued and capable of reaching their highest potential.
What do you hope your students will remember about you and your classes?
Maybe my students will not remember the verb to be, but I hope they will always remember what our classes felt like, the motivation we shared, and the close, human, and respectful treatment they received. For me, those experiences are also part of the learning that stays with them for life.

Yirlany Hernández

What has your experience in the field of education been?
I have four years of experience in teaching both English and Mathematics in private schools, universities, private lessons, and social outreach courses aimed at populations at social risk in the Puntarenas area. I have worked with children, youth, and even older adults, promoting learning based on experience and familiarity with language and numbers. This path has broadened my perspective on how to teach according to the needs of different populations, as well as on the true meaning of teaching and its importance.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
I am passionate about teaching because I firmly believe that education is the heart of society; from it come all professions and occupations, and it is the means through which the world can be transformed little by little. Teaching has shown me that one never stops learning and that, while teaching numbers or doing sums is important, it is essential to form future citizens with values such as respect, awareness, love, and empathy.
What do you hope your students will remember about you and your classes?
I hope they remember a teacher who always made them feel that their voice matters, that they are valuable children worthy of respect and love. I hope they keep the feeling of having been in a comfortable and safe space where they could learn without fear of making mistakes, while being supported and encouraged to keep trying.

What do you love most about being a teacher?
I love seeing my students arrive excited to tell me their stories and receiving their drawings or small gifts full of love and meaning. Even if they do not know it, I learn a lot from their innocence, love, and empathy. I deeply enjoy being part of their personal and academic progress and seeing them become children who, even in a world lacking many values, choose to be agents of change by showing their ability to give love.

What are you passionate about in teaching?
What I am most passionate about in teaching is the opportunity to make a positive difference in my students’ lives. I see teaching as a way of serving others, giving back, and contributing to the growth of future generations. It is deeply meaningful to me to help students discover their abilities, develop new skills, and feel motivated to learn. Knowing that my work can have a lasting impact on their personal and academic growth is what inspires me most.

Diego Vargas

I am passionate about watching my students grow because their journey inspires me to grow alongside them. It is deeply rewarding to know they can learn from my knowledge in a field I have always loved.

What I love most is watching my students discover an artistic medium that helps them discover themselves, become more sensitive, and see me as an example not only in the world of art and design, but also as someone who shares knowledge more broadly so they can move forward and see me as support when something bad happens.

I have developed my experience in education as a Portuguese teacher, mainly with children and adolescents. I have focused on creating close, meaningful, and dynamic classes where the language is not seen as something difficult, but as a tool for communication, learning, and discovering a new culture.
What are you passionate about in teaching?
I am passionate about teaching a new language and accompanying my students as they develop the confidence they need to communicate in Portuguese with security and enthusiasm.
What do you hope your students will remember about you and your classes?
I hope my students remember that learning Portuguese was a beautiful, motivating, and fun experience. I also want them to remember that I always believed in them and accompanied them with closeness and care throughout their learning process.

Ana Cecilia González

What are you passionate about in your work?
I am passionate about bringing together a child’s potential and the tools they need to discover it. Seeing a student manage to self-regulate or overcome a learning or behavioral barrier through collaborative work, and seeing that child feel satisfied and happy with themselves.

It is essential for there to be a strong triad among family, school, and specialists. I also consider it vital for the educational environment to be flexible, allowing neurodiversity to be seen as a value rather than an obstacle. Likewise, it is essential that teachers themselves continue learning and educating themselves on a daily basis.

My style is analytical, collaborative, and solution-centered. I rely on evidence to intervene, but always with a sensitive perspective. I firmly believe in teamwork with teachers, providing them with practical tools they can apply in the classroom without overburdening their work.
